Kannawidan: The Ylocos Festival


            Vigan Philippines which is located in Ilocos Sur Province, is famous for the old massive stonewalls and Spanish brick houses which date back to the Spanish colonization period. Ilocos Sur has a rich heritage and unique culture. However, it is observed that many of these traditions, songs, dances and other Ilocano culture are no longer familiar with the younger generations.
            It is significant historical event was achieved by the people of Ilocos Sur as the maiden "Kannawidan Ilocos Festival" was successfully held to showcase its long time hidden talents, its old and indigenous costumes, traditions, cultures and products. As a part of it, there were also an artist who visited the Vigan Fiesta. In fact, they gave fun to others who watched them during the night that time.
            Kannawidan Ylocos Festival became an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province' rich cultural heritage, practices, traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products. This festival is very significant to every residence in the province as we are celebrating the foundation of Ilocos Sur as a province by virtue of the Royal Decree.
